On the 30.10.2013 representatives of sailing4handicaps will introduce the project of the foundation at the meeting Orthopädietechniker-Innung Südwest.
For our foundation it is important that the work of a volunteer orthopedic technician is set correctly up on board. For this reason we want, since the very beginning, to collect ideas about how we could create the best conditions to work on such a limited space like the catamaran. We are looking forward to a lively exchange and lots of interested visitors.
The Panda 10000i PMS goes with the Lagoon 410 S2 on the circumnavigation
Preparations for the long trip are in full deveopment. Fischer Panda GmbH is pleased that the foundation sailing4handicaps has choose a Panda 10000i PMS for the power supply on board of its sailing catamaran. With the recent installation of the unit and the joint press event at the Ancora Marina in Neustadt, the partnership has been officially sealed.
On their circumnavigation the athletes Wojtek Czyz and Elena Brambilla will stop over in various ports and work locally with amputees showing them how to build up, use and maintain prostheses and supporting them.
The power supply on board will be guaranteed by a generator 10000i Panda PMS. Thanks to its environmentally friendly Inverter technology, the activity of the generator can be controlled depending on the need. In this way exhaust emissions and fuel consumption are reduced. Also the noise level is very low due to the super quiet sound insulation.
The water-cooled engine has a rated output of 8 kW.
Due to the extremely compact size of the generator minimal space was needed during the installation on board.
“For this project, continuous and reliable power supply is essential, especially when no shore power is available. We are pleased to be able to support this charity project and are now looking forward to the trip reports of the crew. We wish Wojtek Czyz and Elena Brambilla a nice trip and a lot of success”, said Jens Langer, Head of Fischer Panda GmbH Sales/Marketing/Projects, during the presentation date in the Ancora Marina
Fischer Panda GmbH is a manufacturer of diesel generators, hybrid power systems and vehicle applications for mobile and marine. The generators are known for their compact design and extremely low noise emissions during operation. The Fischer Panda team includes more than 400 technicians and retailers in over 70 countries worldwide.

In this optic sailing4handicaps, a non-profit association estabilished by Wojtek Czyz, multiple track and field Paralympic, World and European Champion, and his life partner Elena Brambilla, a professional track and field athlete herself, sets out for a new challenge: to help disabled people to reach better life conditions through a prosthetic provision and medical assistance. Sailing around the world on the catamaran “Imagine”, sailing4handicaps aims to supply prosthesis to those people who have no access to them, teaching them how to build, fit, wear and maintain these prosthesis and transfering know how with the support of professional orthopaedists and doctors.
This is how a simple catamaran will become a conveyance of hope in the world, aside from a place of welcome and work for several people in need. In this optic the italian brand VECO S.p.A, since years expert in the marine field with his brands Climma and Frigoboat, and sailing4handicaps are proud to announce their collaboration. Through the supply of a conditioning system and a refrigerator, Veco will better the work conditions on board both for the crew and for the patients, putting his imprint in a great international project.
We have been invited by our suit supplier Marinepool in the context of the “Extreme Sailing Series” in Porto to officialy present our club. Elena and I have never take part before to such an event.
During this competition, different teams challenged themselves using identical 40 feets Katamarans. In this way the winner is not the one who has the best boat, but the one who has the best Team, which consists in a Skipper, a Navigation expert, a Tactician and other two important helpers.
Robert Starke, the General Direktor of marinepool, and his Marketing strategist Christoph Stadler have thought about a surprise for us… Elena and I had the chance to take part to one competition as “ballast” on one boat. So we had our debut in a regata…and it was simply amazing!!!
The Regata lasts 3 days, 10 competitions take place everyday and at the end of the week-end the winner take is price (for further informations and the detailed competition rules take a look at http://www.extremesailingseries.com).
In this week-end we have been lucky and we could both sail on “The Wave” of the Skipper Leigh MC Millan.
It has been an amazing experience! Elena was not even stepping out of the boat that she wanted to go back again and I have been deeply impressed form the perfect Team work of the guys, who have next been the winners in Porto.
The Skipper gave all the commands precisely and calmly, the Tactician calculated the incidence of the wind and another crew memeber took in mind the position of the other boats. so we have found out really easily own we should handle the boat aswell and which behaviour we should have between us ;)
During the week-end we have officialy presented our project, which has got a really good feed-back from the media. Our reasons and targets have been highly supported and have raised the interest of lots of people from all over the world. We can now say that it has been the right place where to present our project!
We would like to thank Robert Starke and Christoph Stadler for this opportunity. They took a lot care of us and are a flame supporting our project.
We would also like to thank the general organization of the event for putting us in the right light. We wish a lot of luck to all teams for the upcoming competitions, which will determine the final winner.
On the occasion of the Extreme Sailing Series Event in Porto, today Wojtek Czyz togheter with his life partner Elena Brambilla, OC Sports and Marinepool introduced a new charity project to the international sailing community.
Wojtek Czyz, a German of Polish origin, was bound to become a professional soccer player when desaster struck. A serious sports insury caused the loss of his left leg right above the knee, an accident which ended his dreams at once. An athlete in every aspect, Wojtek changed his focus and pursued a career in disabled sports with great success. He won four gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Athens and Beijing as a sprinter and long jumper and silver and two bronze medals in London on top of multiple European and World titles.
During his extensive travel around the globe as an athlete, Wojtek learned that in many areas of the world disabled people are stigmatized, seen as a burden to their families and outsiders in social life. The absence of prosthetic assistance means these people have no prospects.
With SAILING 4 HANDICAPS, a charity founded by Wojtek and his life partner Elena Brambilla, an accomplished track and field athlete herself, they set out for a new challenge. To help disabled people help themselves. SAILING 4 HANDICAPS aims to improve the life of disabled people by raising awareness for what handicapped people can achieve. Sailing around the world in a catamaran SAILING 4 HANDICAPS will teach people with no access to modern prostheses how to build, fit, wear and maintain prostheses and transfer know how with the support of professional orthopaedists and doctors.
MARINEPOOL supports SAILING 4 HANDICAP with performance sailing clothing, life jackets, access to it´s global network in sailing and in fundraising.
You can finally find the first infos about our Imagine under the Catamaran link. The boat is going to be prepared for the long drive. You can also find a couple of pics from our baby.
Since I know how much I like to be updated for example about the build up of a water maker or of a generator, we will try in the future to keep you update over the work on our Imagine.
We would have never thought that, after the foundation of our Club, there could have been such an high interest for our Project, overall since we aren’t in any media yet.
We are proud to entertrain intensive talks with Marinepool and Fisher Panda.
Aslo Mastervolt has showed interest in supporting us.
